Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort
5 Estate Bakkeroe

This otherwise "decent hotel" suffers from a flurry of
pricing oddities, from unexpected "group service" fees
to misleadingly priced gift shop items.

Stayed with our trade group in November, decent hotel with nice beach. Were quoted $175.00 per room per night. When we checked out were told we had to pay an additional "Group Service Charge" of $23.75 per room per night. Refused to pay it so they finally agreed to reduce it to $8.75 per night. Wanted to charge group $1000.00 for use of a microphone for our meeting room. Hotel store had a 1/2 price discount table for hotel monogramed shirts. Bought two...clerk rang them up at full price $39.95 and $19.95. When I questioned her she said that "only those items in front of the sign" were reduced, not those behind the sign on the same table. Told her to take them back; said she couldn't until the manager came in @ 2:00 PM. Went back and the manager said the clerk didn't know what she was doing and corrected the sale. Went downstairs to their spa for a message and the same $39.00 shirts regular price there was $27.95. Wrote letter to the hotel manager and got a typical stock letter making excuses for everything without really addressing the problems. Our trade group president is trying to get the $24.75 per day "Group Servise Charge" rebated back to all the other members (who neglected to protest paying it at checkout). No success on that fron yet (3 weeks later).
