My wife & I decided to celebrate our 20th anniversary in Las Vegas and I made a reservation at the Venetian. I splurged and reserved one of the Venezia suites which ran @$300/night. The room was absolutely gorgeous. Huge feather bed, 2 Phillips flat-screen plasmas, great decor and a view of the strip from the 12th floor. On the minus side, there wasn't a lot of closet space for clothes and there were signs of poor maintenance (scratched walls, chipped porcelin). Also, there was a pillow menu where you could pay extra for up-scale pillows. Very poor idea in a room costing that much. Shouldn't you get the best w/o paying extra?
The service level was poor. The reception folks in our 'exclusive' check-in desk acted snotty and above it all, not at all friendly. The first morning I went out to reception to ask where I could get a latte and was directed to a coffee establishment outside in the hotel shops - a good 10 minute hike. I found out the next morning that I could have gotten this right there in our exclusive dining area where they have complimentary continental breakfast/tea/ cocktail hour for Venezia guests only. This is a pretty big plus as everything is first class and the quality of all the food/beverages is
top shelf. But why in the world send me out into the mall to get coffee? When we went to check out I had asked if we could leave our bags at the reception area as we had a few hours before our plane and wanted to explore a little. I was told that would be ok. A half-hour later I asked the same woman where to leave the bags and she, without even looking up at me, said to take them downstairs. I replied that I has just talked to her about this earlier and she finally looked at and rolled her eyes at me. At this point, my wife lost her temper and told the woman 'never, ever roll your eyes at a guest again'. The woman denied doing it and, instead of just taking the heat and apologizing, kept arguing with my wife. I finally managed to disengage and ended up waiting in a huge line downstairs to check out. I did follow-up and talked to a very nice woman named Tess who is the GM of this area. Of course she was horrified, etc, etc. apologized and said she would love to meet my wife and I next time we stay in Vegas. We'll be back but probably won't be seeing Tess as I don't intend to stay at the Venetain again. Very nice hotel, nice-sized rooms but too many service errors for a hotel of this caliber.

Beautiful pretend Venice that's like a Disney version of the real thing. Lots of places to relax that are relatively quiet. Action for those who want it. Wonderful health club that wasn't too expensive, good equipment, water and towels provided.
They super-oxygenate the air to keep people alert, playing and spending money longer. Until I discovered this fact I thought I was a world class athlete. I've never had a gym workout that was more fun. On the other side, when you return home I felt like a sloth for two days. Maybe I should add an oxygenating system to my house?

The Venetian Hotel: Las Vegas, Nevada.
We did get a good price: $229 per night, a suite, as all rooms there are. Pretty, certainly. But don't believe the hype. Pillows scratchy. Nothing out of the ordinary. Bathtub was not a swirl pool, shower was not a steam shower. Chintzy on the handing out of bathroom products: two people should at least get two shampoos, conditioners, etc., right? No. Just one. The service was lacking. People were not excited to help you as other luxury hotels in Vegas (like Bellagio); it almost seemed as though you were annoying them. I will say that despite the cancellation policy, I was able to cancel a spa reservation a few hours before the treatment with no charge. We did not have a bad meal at the restaurants there. We clearly had a nice time, but we clearly will not stay there again.

Venetian in Las Vegas (stay Sat - Wed in June 2003)
Great size suites, but the pull out sofa will only sleep one and it was lumpy and sloped downward.
Upon entering the suite, I was quite impressed with the size of the suite. On the down side, the walls were very dinged up, especially around the door entrance and almost every baseboard. Some fresh paint would go a long way! The carpet had a huge stain in front of one of the beds that was immediately noticeable upon coming in the room. Either a carpet shampoo or a new carpet would make the room more appealing. Everything else in the room was ok. No coffee maker in the room. Even with these flaws, the room still is at the top of my stays in Vegas including Mandalay, Flamingo, Paris and Riveria.
Bathrooms were ok, nothing great compared to the top of the line Mandalay.
Front desk and taxi service quick and efficient on all nights (Sat - Wed). Several reasonable choices for "quick" food for lunch/breakfast. High roller slot VIP room very nice with excellent drink refreshments. The finger food was average at best.
Casino dealers very friendly. Casino personnel very helpful. Casino hosts were at the bottom of my list between here and Mandalay and Flamingo. Seemed uncaring and did not act friendly or for that matter even the slight bit interested in us. This was surprising as we were comped on the front end for all four nites by the hotel and Mandalay hosts have bent over backwards for our business in the past.

Ventian - Las Vegas
Dates Reviewed - June 15, 2003
Excellent customer service. Rooms showing signs of age. Need to refurbish. We upgraded
to a Rialto Suite. Lots of wasted space. Carpet needed replaced. Walls were stained and
needed cleaning. Phone did not work when we arrived - repaired and later stopped working
again. Sink clogged. Several electrical outlets did not work.
Call ahead priority for valet parking was nice. Hotel staff was very
helpful.
For your money, you can do better in Vegas.........

The Venetian Las Vegas
I have stayed there 3 times in 2003. There is no better hotel for huge suites, great
bathrooms, tremendous service and the most comfortable casino in town. No pushiness here,
the staff is laid back and helpful. Make your reservations in advance, however, as on busy
week-ends the prices go out of site. You will not be comped ahead of time and it will all
depend on your play. World class dining and maybe the best all around eating for fine
dining
in LV.
Lastly, on the last two stays I have left things in my room, including over $500 in chips.
The security service called me and asked me where to send it! You can't beat that.

The Venetian is too big, too crowded and the service levels are not worth the costs of the
rooms. Waiting for valet to bring your car takes 20 minutes. Everything about the casino
is just too overdone. Nice restaurants, but more subpar service.

The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas
I am very surprised to tell you that this beautiful and
extravagently furnished hotel is somewhat poor in execution in my opinion.
I just left there after four days and was annoyed each day.
The extra charges are outrageous ($30 minimum at fitness center and $25 per half hour
for e-mail access at the business center. My Fedex package was delivered to the hotel
at 9:00am and they denied having it through 11:30am. I had to hike to the "package center"
and insist that they search the pile of items which they had previously said was too much
trouble. Then, they tried to charge me $3.00 for a package delivery fee. In addition,
I think that it is a pain to have to take a five minute walk through the casino to get
to a room or restaurant. My video checkout did not function as promised and the turndown
"sevice" was unreliable. I hope that you pass this on.
